Tooth Extraction Surgery

Whether you have a single tooth to be extracted, or all four wisdom teeth need to be removed, you can expect some bleeding from the surgery site, bruising in the mid/lower face, swelling, and/or difficulty opening the jaws from stiffness of the muscles.  (rarely) Damage to nearby teeth and/or restorations during the procedure may occur. In any situation, local anesthetic (freezing) will be used to maximize your comfort, and potentially IV Sedation if indicated. You will be informed if stitches have been placed, and whether you need to come back to have them removed. It is advised to avoid strenuous activity for at least 24 hours following an extraction, and to avoid smoking for at least 48 hours. You will be given written instructions on how to care for the surgical sites following an extraction.
